Sidewalk downtown
Reader Commentstrees Posted 6/13/2005 8:45:15 AM by Laura I know it must have been necessary to remove the trees on main street, but I do miss them. They added such beauty to our town. I understand the new trees have to take time to grow and I hope they will add as much beauty as the others. Although, I still miss seeing the streets lined with such beauty as this picture details!! They added such wonderful southern charm to the streets. I agree Laura Posted 12/2/2005 5:09:58 AM by Chance Johnson Thats one reason i miss Pontotoc and cant wait to get back from overseas, but im active duty so ill still be gone for a while. memories Posted 1/1/2006 6:45:10 PM by Jimmy McLean My maternal grandparents ( Waldrops ), lived in Pontotoc. My mother was born in Randolph and went to school there Family Roots Posted 1/24/2006 11:55:44 AM by Wendy (Vance) Yandell Enjoyed looking at Pontotoc. My grandfather Vance was bn in Pontotoc Co. near Randolph. His father served in War between the States from Pontotoc, and his father, Wm. H. Vance, was on land records there in 1839. After the War my grandfather's family, including his widowed mother, moved to Arkansas and on into Indian Terr. (Okla.) I recognize names such as Tutor, Waldrop, Carpenters, and others from there from my GF's old letters. All so interesting as we dig for our 'roots.' streets of pontotoc Posted 1/10/2007 2:10:49 PM by Sarah Ann Jimmy, my mother was born in Randolph along with her 4 sisters and went to school there. I was born in '45 but my early memories are similar to yours. We lived on Oxford St. while daddy was in WWII.,with my maternal grandparents. Mother took me to "town" every day. Her mother worked at Mrs. Page's 5 & 10 cent store. My parents still live in Pontotoc and I visit about once a month. I've heard my grandmother speak many times of Wade Waldrop. memories! Posted 6/9/2007 10:47:03 PM by fats-skinny Man...I remember runnin down these sidewalks when I was a kid...skinnin my knees, kicking over garbage cans, throwing rocks at cars, setting buildings on fire, mugging old ladies...just your normal childhood... Growing up Posted 2/13/2008 12:59:27 PM by Johnna Deaton Corley I grew up on Liberty Street behind the Courthouse. Downtown Pontotoc was my playground. My sister and I would walk to the old Sunflower for our mother; we walked to Montgomery Drugs when it was still downtown and we walked to the public swimming pool every summer. I live in another town now and I am always telling my children about growing up in Pontotoc and being able to walk EVERYWHERE. It was a great childhood. Nice Walk?
Posted 6/19/2008 1:34:46 PM by Winky Harrelson Isn't it funny how some people(Ms Corley) loved to walk everywhere. Well it's a bit different when you HAVE TO WALK everywhere! Not all of us had the luxury of a shiney new car missy. After my dads Econoline was towed away it was good old foot power that brought home the bacon and my dads demerol from Montgomery Drugs.
