Proud of Pontotoc!
Posted 12/3/2004 2:53:17 PM by Kyra Pickens McArthur

I am so pleased that a friend refered me to this site. I have had a wonderful time browsing through the 'pages', and especially loved the photos here. Pontotoc is so dear to my heart. I grew up here and have been here most of my life.

I am going to enjoy checking in here from time to time and also sending the web address to out of town friends and family. I am sure they would love to see these pictures of back home.

You all have done a wonderful job on this. Keep up the good work!

I AM VERY GLAD TO SEE THE RENOVATION OF THE COURT HOUSE. I AM PROUD THAT OUR HISTORICAL SITES IN PONTOTOC HAVE BEEN PRESERVED. THESE BUILDINGS ARE A PART OF THE HERITAGE OF PONTOTOC CO. ALSO, THE POST OFFICE AND COMMUNITY HOUSE LOOK GREAT, KEEP IT UP!

Java John's Coffee Shop COMING SOON!
Posted 10/15/2006 5:20:14 PM by Danny White

I'm proud, and honored to announce to all local Pontotoc Citizens, That Java John's Coffee Shop is in great progress. It is very close to opening. There are some other things that need to be taken care of, before the doors are opened. I would like to thank everyone for their patience. Me along with my family are looking forward to introducing to the town a Coffee Shop that has a warm, inviting, and a home away from home atmosphere or ambience if You will. We are looking forward to create a great place where Community comes to gather, and hang out. I would like to thank Mayor Rutledge for suggesting Our location in the Historical Building of the former Sneed's Grocery. We literally fell in love with the Corner location. We are honored to be located in one of the many memorable buildings that Pontotoc has to offer.

I would like to encourage everyones continued patience. Alot of work had to be accomplished on Our behalf.
May God continue to Bless everyone that is reading this.

Blessings!

Take out the trash
Posted 11/7/2006 2:09:20 PM by Town Cryer

So impressed with the photo of the trash outside of your Pontotoc Progress office. Guess you missed the memo about picture day. By the way Pizza Doctor has been out of business since the roaches took over several years back.

I like to live in pontotoc
Posted 7/21/2007 9:10:51 PM by Brenda

I like to live in Pontotoc, but I think living in Jackson was better, but I still like living here because I have a lot of friends. I go to North Pontotoc Middle school, but I think I'm moving to South Pontotoc soon. I love to live in this place.

Changes in Pontotoc
Posted 8/22/2007 1:00:18 PM by Forever a Pontotocian

Pontotoc is a great place to live and raise kids. Things are progressing in Pontotoc. Good things like the Toyota project , new businesses, etc. There are also so negative things happening like plants and businesses closing. The new Hwy seems to get the blame for a lot of this.

Downtown Pontotoc is dying and that's sad to see. What beats all is Michael's closed. I could hardly believe that. I'm sure it couldn't be helped with everything now going all around Pontotoc. I think we're seeing the remnants of our old town.

Everything has to progress and with progression comes change. Change can be so hard to except sometimes.

So you better take a good look.....in the next few years we won't know our little town.

Some of these pictures should be updated. People should see the nice changes that have taken place. Pontotoc is still one of the most beautiful towns in Mississippi. But that's just my oppinion.....

It's Been a Long Time
Posted 10/30/2007 8:14:56 PM by Todd Smith

I lived in Pontotoc for a few years when I was in Elementary. Unbelievably, I even recognize some of your names on here as former school mates (Tabitha, Johnna). I moved away in the early 80's but a lot of my family still lived there for a while. I even drove down to the town square in the mid-nineties to propose to my wife since my great-grandfather's name is engraved on that memorial. Recently, I drove thru the town again but was a little depressed by how run-down it seems to have gotten. I'll always have fond memories of Pontotoc.

I am worried about my town.
Posted 11/18/2007 9:32:24 PM by Warriorsquaw85

I've lived in Pontotoc most of my life, and I am worried about my town. There was a lot of excitement when Toyota made their announcement about their plant in Blue Springs. Since then, there has been lots of talk about how things are going to change - 4-laneing highways, larger schools, and so on. Well, that seems to be all there is - talk. We need action so that our town will get some of Toyota's supporting factories. All three high school are bursting at the seams. Why hasn't work begun on enlarging them? Highway 9 and 15 traffic is as bad as ever. Pontotoc cannot wait until 2009 to start work. We need to begin now.

Hi Pontotoc! my name is Juno Cobamdia. I have moved this city from New Guinea. I have swam across great lakes and camped in very regional farm houses. I am veddy hapy to be living in this city. The trash on the pictures remind me of my hometown in New Guinea named Poulkinstern. We had trash like that vedy bad. Some homeless peeple use to live inside the diseased trash bags. Also .. In Guinea .. We worship Christmas once a year just like everyone else .. Unlike this town which still have Santa's Reindeer stay up all year including in July. Well Think yew Pontotoc for the SPECTACULAR place .. Xcuse me area .. Me and my uncle, Penizdilular Cobamdia would enjoy it even more if the trash photos would be updated ..

it's not dot's youthland anymore...it WAS lexie's youthland and they've also moved so the space is empty now.

dot's youthland
Posted 5/2/2008 7:41:41 PM by Danny

The youthland store moved, because the owner of that building gave up maintaining it. He is the same person that ran Micheal's clothing store. I know what would be great for that whole building. A Luxury "downtown" Hotel. I really believe if that building would house a hotel. Watch out! The Downtown area will be on their way to boom. That Bus shop needs to be converted into Pontotoc Performing Arts Center. That would be very essential to the area, for them to have a Performing Arts and Convention Center, where pontotocians can have different exhibits throughout the year.

Early history

I am currently reading the journal of Richard R. Bolton, who came to that place to sell Chickasaw land to white settlers in the 1830's, which brought me to your web site. The name of the book is "Memories and Memorabilia Family Line of Clarence & Mary Bolton 1883-1994" It is self-published, so I don't know where to tell those interested to find it.

I have done so much family tree research (Goggans/Richardson) in Pontotoc, Ms. that it feels like home. I can think of not other place this side of Heaven that I had rather live than Pontotoc County, Mississippi. I love it. Also, Pontotoc (Deans Industry) provided me a job three summers back during school days. Way big thanks.
